SignalSeed Foundation

Curiosity into
capability.

Helping children in India and Sri Lanka understand technology deeply enough to question it, build with it, and use it to solve problems around them.

Why SignalSeed exists

Children should learn to shape technology—not grow up merely consuming it.

Access to a device is not the same as technological agency. Children need mental models, opportunities to make and repair, the confidence to ask how a system works, and the judgement to use digital tools safely.

SignalSeed combines computing, physical making, critical digital literacy, and community problem-solving. The aim is capable thinking that remains valuable even as specific tools change.

The SignalSeed learning arc

Four capacities, taught together.

The sequence moves from understanding to agency. Every cohort finishes by explaining and demonstrating something it has built.

01

Understand

Learn how computers, networks, data, and algorithms work through experiments that make invisible systems tangible.

Logic · Systems · Digital foundations

02

Build

Move from screen-only learning to circuits, sensors, code, and simple machines that respond to the physical world.

Electronics · Coding · Robotics

03

Question

Practise checking sources, understanding AI limitations, protecting privacy, and recognising manipulation or unsafe behaviour online.

AI literacy · Media · Cyber safety

04

Solve

Investigate a local problem, test assumptions with people affected by it, and build a small, explainable prototype.

Research · Design · Communication

Delivery model

Designed for local delivery and repeat use.

The first operating geography is India and Sri Lanka. Delivery is built around trusted local institutions rather than short, one-off technology events.

Learners

Children aged 10–16, with entry routes that do not assume prior access to a computer or coding instruction.

Format

A twelve-week studio delivered with schools, libraries, and trusted community organisations in India and Sri Lanka.

Language

Core concepts taught through locally appropriate language and examples while preserving access to standard technical vocabulary.

Equipment

Reusable learning kits shared by each cohort so participation does not depend on a child owning hardware.

Educators

Local educators supported with lesson plans, facilitator preparation, safety guidance, and a repeatable studio method.

Evidence

Learner portfolios, demonstrations, reflection, and team projects—not rankings built around one high-pressure examination.

First programme

SignalSeed Foundations Studio.

A twelve-week foundation in technological thinking for children aged 10–16.

Weeks 01–03

Computational thinking

Break problems into steps, recognise patterns, test instructions, and explain why a solution works.

Weeks 04–06

Physical computing

Build circuits with sensors and outputs; write small programs that observe and respond.

Weeks 07–09

AI and digital judgement

Explore how models learn, where they fail, how information is verified, and how personal data should be protected.

Weeks 10–12

Community build

Choose a nearby problem, create a prototype, document trade-offs, and present the work to families and educators.

Programme standard

Learning must be safe, accessible, and honest.

Child safeguarding

Partner selection, facilitator conduct, consent, supervision, and escalation procedures are part of programme design.

Privacy by default

Collect the minimum learner information needed and do not turn children’s participation into advertising data.

Accessible entry

Avoid assumptions about prior exposure, English fluency, personal devices, or paid technical instruction.

No invented impact

Report participation and outcomes only after the method and evidence are sufficient to support them.

Schools, libraries and community partners

Help establish a SignalSeed learning site.

We are building the first partner network in India and Sri Lanka. Organisations should be prepared to provide a safe learning space, a consistent local coordinator, and time for a complete twelve-week cohort.
